How you'll work. Mostly one day a week from home, agreed for each role.

  • You'll be employed by Nkonso Technologies Ltd.

About the role

Our backend carries work that has to be right: Agoo Payroll's statutory calculations and files, the one Agoo account people use across our products, the messaging behind Atumpan and Amee's inbox, and the safety checks that keep Amee's community well. You'll design these services, build them and answer for their correctness, alongside a second senior backend engineer so that no review depends on one person.

What you'll do

  • Design and build backend services and APIs used by our web and native apps
  • Model data carefully, and write queries and migrations that stay fast and safe as the data grows
  • Build Agoo Payroll's PAYE, SSNIT and pension calculations and files with the care that money and tax deserve
  • Build the services behind one Agoo account across our products, with a firm boundary between work and personal data
  • Work on the messaging and real-time services behind Atumpan, Amee and team chat in Agoo Workspace
  • Build services that cope when a phone or kiosk goes offline and catches up later
  • Write tests that prove behaviour, and review your colleagues' work with care
  • Take part in incident response, and fix root causes rather than symptoms

What you'll bring

  • At least five years building production backend services in Go or a similar typed language
  • Strong skills with relational databases, preferably PostgreSQL: schema design, indexing, transactions and migrations
  • Experience designing APIs that mobile and web clients depend on
  • Good security instincts: authentication, authorisation and the handling of personal data
  • Experience with background work and event-driven systems
  • Clear written English for design notes and code reviews
  • If you're a Ghanaian graduate: National Service completed, or exempt

Nice to have

  • Payroll, accounting or payments systems
  • Messaging, real-time or offline sync systems
  • Multi-tenant software sold to organisations
  • Familiarity with Ghana's PAYE, SSNIT and pension tiers

How you'll work

  • Hybrid. You'll be based at our office at 10A Mega Street, Adentan, Accra, mostly with one day a week from home, agreed for the role.
  • Hours. Standard office hours.
  • This is a permanent, full-time role.
  • Reporting. You'll report to the Head of Engineering.
  • Openings. There are two openings.
