About the role

Our products share one platform: Agoo runs the front doors and workplaces of organisations across Ghana, Agoo Reviews and Agoo Forms are open to everyone, and Amee and Atumpan are being built now. As our first Head of Engineering you'll own how we design, review, release and run all of it, and you'll hire and lead the engineers who do the work. This is a true head role: the standards you set and the people you bring in will shape everything we build after them.

What you'll do

Hire and lead the engineering team across backend, iOS, Android, web, reliability, security, AI and quality
Own the architecture across our products, and the design reviews that keep it coherent as it grows
Set the bar for code review, testing, accessibility and performance, and hold the team to it
Run releases for the web, the App Store and Google Play, so changes ship in planned, well-tested batches
Take over the approval and running of production changes, so that no release depends on a single person
Lead incident response: the call when something breaks, the fix, and the honest write-up afterwards
Set how we build: architecture, code review standards, testing and the discipline of every release
Plan engineering work with product and design, and say plainly what is realistic
Grow engineers through mentoring, regular feedback and fair, consistent levels

What you'll bring

A long record of building and running production software, with at least three years leading engineering teams
Hands-on depth in backend services and relational databases, and enough mobile and web experience to judge good work in each
Experience running systems people rely on every day, including on-call, incident response and post-incident reviews
A record of hiring well and building teams that people want to stay in
Sound judgement on security and privacy where identity, money and personal data are involved
Clear written English: you'll write the standards others follow
If you're a Ghanaian graduate: National Service completed, or exempt

Nice to have

Experience with native iOS and Android release processes
Products built for patchy networks and modest phones
Consumer products at scale as well as business software
End-to-end encrypted messaging or social platforms

How you'll work

Hybrid. You'll be based at our office at 10A Mega Street, Adentan, Accra, mostly with one day a week from home, agreed for the role.
Hours. Standard office hours.
This is a permanent, full-time role.
Reporting. You'll report to the founder.
